Review: Wizkid’s Epic Performance At The O2(London) On 26 May, 2018
“…WHEN OJUELEGBA WAS DROPPED AT THE AFROREPUBLIC 2018, THE ANGELS DECENDED TO VIBE WITH WIZKID ON STAGE”
Wizkid, once again, made it to history books last saturday as he performed before a crowd of more than 20 thousand fans in the 02 Arena, London. This is what it really means to turn the 02 to an 03.
The 1hr 2mins performance began with a Fela inspired entrance. He lifelessly walked into the stage and stood on a platform with his two hands raised in the air 🙌, and his palms balled into a half-fist. The platform kept raising… For a moment, the clock stopped ticking and Starboy stood as if he was entranced.
This was a dream come true. Screams from the crowd shot off the 02 roofs. The stage remained dark but the lights from phones in the crowd illuminated the hall.
The real Starboy must have stood there looking into the tiny lights and wanting to wake up from this dream. Buh it was a reality.
Dj Tunez took him out of his trance, as he said, “let’s party!” Then he dropped MANYA; Starboy got wild and the crowd exploded! Africa was in the building!!!
Series of classics dropped and the room got wild. Tiwa came on stage, performed, hugged the Starboy and left. By and by, classics upon classics, Then Starboy said, “drop thah next shit.” Guess what? I heard, “It’s Legendary beatz!” The national anthem. One of the biggest songs from Africa, OJUELEGBA by Wizkid. 🔥 🔥
A shudder went through the crowd and the Angels in all white descended. Skepta came on stage and complemented with so much energy. Looking at the crowd, looking at the stage, I knew this was love; this has always been the African dream.
Skepta got a sec from Wiz to address the crowd and confirmed, “This is the dream.. Africa is in the building! ”
Soco dropped and the stage was on fire, dancers everywhere and Wiz in the middle. Then Daddy Yo had to break the DADDY YO jam to profess his love and say his goodbyes. Buh before leaving, he prophesied that this was gonna happen again next year. He was done!
Throughout the performance, Soco was played two times buh performed thrice. OJUELEGBA was played twice.
Before Wizzy came on, there were performances by Maleekberry, Tekno, Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi etc.
Africa was indeed in the building! This is just the beginning.
