Relocate to host communities in three months! – Niger Delta Youths Tell Oil Companies. *Disagree With FG over Fuel and Electricity Price Hike.
Youths from twenty ethnic groups in the Niger Delta Region under the ageis of Niger Delta Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders Council have given oil companies operating in the region three months to relocate their operations headquarters to host communities.
The youths made this demand after electing new helmsmen to champion the affairs of the youth advocacy group in Uyo.
A communique signed by Comr, TERRY OBIEH the President-General and COMR BASSEY HENSHAW -Secretary, states in part ” the Federal government should compel oil companies to sign general MOU’s with communities, if they have not done so, to reduce the crisis between oil company and the communities.
The council also calls on the multinational oil companies, as directed by the federal government to immediately within three months of this notice commence the relocation of their headquarters to their oil production base, failure which we might be force to react.
On Edo elections, The council admonished the federal government to make sure there is free, fair and credible election in Edo state by ensuring that security personnel are deployed before, during and after the election to Foster peace order, and also called on the political parties to embrace peaceful electioneering conduct and making sure Edo State comes first in their actions and deeds, as well as calling on the youths of the state to shun election violence and adhere strictly to NCDC guideline.
The council appealed to the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency, develop an economic engagement of the Niger Delta Youths through existing projects, which will ultimately generate well over Five Hundred Thousand Jobs opportunity for the youths in the region and help in post covid-19 Economic developmental plans.Examples of such projects areExport Processing Zone (EPZ) in Delta State and Cross River State.The Maritime University in Delta State and Brass Fertilizer project in Bayelsa State.Reactivation of Calabar, Warri and Port Harcourt Sea Ports.
Construction of Lagos/Calabar Rail Way, East West Road, Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene, Aba-Ikot Ekpene, Owerri-Port Harcourt, Isoko-Onitsha, Benin-Abuja and Calabar Itu Express way. Immediate commencement of exploiting the Bitumen reserved in Ondo State. And activation of Ibom deep seaport in Akwa Ibom State.
The Niger Delta Youth Group also demanded that “The Federal Government commences social intervention programs so as to help reducing the pains and sufferings of the people as occasion by the hack in Fuel / Electric price.
Stating thatIt was imperative at this juncture to note that election into various offices were held and the under-listed ethnic youth leaders emerged as the executive to steer the organization for the next 36 months.
